I can’t thank SiriusXM enough for the opportunity to gain such important and useful experience at a top radio network. I’ve learned a lot from my internship here on the Sports Programming side of things that I will surely be able to take with me in my career. The reason for my internship being such a success is all of the people I worked with, from my mentor to all of the hosts, producers and board operators.
The people I worked with at SiriusXM were genuine people. From the first day, my mentor Marissa set goals and expectations for me to meet and she’s guided me the entire way along with the help of Chris, Josh and Alex just to name a few. I’ve learned how to screen calls and write rundowns correctly. I’ve learned how to tailor the SoundClouds to the way the channel wants them to be and create them from scratch. I’ve learned how to make promos and had multiple approved. Using Prophet and getting on a live soundboard also seemed really intimidating, but with the help of everyone here, I’ve learned not to fear it and that it’s not bad at all. These are just some of the multitude of things I’ve learned ranging from being in an On-Air, Live studio to doing post-production work. The shows themselves were also really fun and unique. I had the privilege of working with Busted Open, The Luke Thomas Show, MMA Tonight and At the Fights. Each one of them possesses qualities that make them great, high-quality content shows.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that it’s okay to make a mistake. No one here judged me for making a mistake. In fact, they encouraged me not to be afraid to because mistakes make you better at what you do. You learn from your mistakes through repetition and it motivates you to get better each time you’re handed or set with a task.
For any college student that is looking to go into radio, there’s no question that this is the place to be. I truly mean it when I say I had such a positive experience at SiriusXM. The people here will guide you, make you feel involved and you’ll always have something to do. When you leave, you’ll have so much experience and new skills to take with you wherever you go next. For me though, I hope to continue being a part of the SiriusXM family as I look to start my career after college.
I still remember my first day at SiriusXM, my mentor greeted me and introduced me to everyone on the team. From day one, I never felt that this place is new to me. People were so welcoming and kind. My mentor then showed me to my desk, then my day started. My team made sure I get access as soon as possible, so I can start my work.
The first week went into getting access, meanwhile I read all the documentation regarding Informatica,Vertica.
From Second week I started working on real projects. They always challenged me. I am so grateful to my mentor and all other team members that they took time out from their busy schedule to answer all my questions patiently. Open communication was one of the strongest and most apparent skills that I learned during my internship.
My team members never considered me as an intern. They always considered me as one of their team mate. They involve me in every team meeting. Friday lunch was my favorite part, as the whole team go out to eat.
And time flew so fast… today was my last day at SiriusXM. They really gave me nice farewell and with heavy heart I left the office.
SiriusXM takes very good care of intern, especially Bonnie…she always made sure everything is going well. Talent Acquisition Team arranged career workshop for intern where they guided us how to grow your network, interview and all necessary stuff for successful career.
I would definitely recommend an internship with SiriusXM to all students. My experience with SiriusXM was rewarding and challenging.
An internship with SiriusXM is truly a blessing for any student. The exposure I received to the workforce and the skills I’ve learned over the past few months made this internship unlike any of the others that I have done in the past. Being a finance and economics major in school comes with limited Microsoft Excel exposure. The opportunity to work alongside my mentors, whom are currently working the very positions I aspire to be in, not only enhanced my skills in the Excel program but also provided me insight to what my life consists of after graduation. Under their guidance, I learned many new skills that will assist me in my transition from a being a student to becoming a member of the working world. In addition to the hands-on experience, the internship also featured workshops that bestowed valuable information on interview and resume preparation skills. I have shared my experience with my family and friends in hopes that they take the initiative to apply for an internship at SiriusXM so that they can experience what I have over these past few months.
My experience at SiriusXM has been amazing, and I am definitely sad that it has to end today. The POTUS staff really made me feel at home and taught me a lot about the satellite radio industry. Charla has been an amazing supervisor, and had taught me everything I know from audio production and editing as well as how I can improve in broadcasting by recording newscast stories. The hosts are kind and amazing and inspire me to hopefully one day pursue what they are doing. It is from this internship, I developed a heart for politics, and have gained so much experience in meeting and talking to some very high profile people. Being at SiriusXM had made me feel more than just an intern, and more a part of their family.
When looking back at my time at Sirius I can only think of two things, the incredible fun I had and the amount of experience I gained. Over the last 9 months (I did two internships) I have developed a sense of home here, with everyone welcoming me to the company. I have had nothing but amazing experiences with the staff and my mentors. Both Colton and Brucie have gone above and beyond where I thought they’d go, teaching me so much about the industry and about where I want my career to go. Going into this internship I was unsure about my future and where I should go. After this internship I now know where I want to go in the industry and what I want to strive towards. They have both been the best mentors a person can have and I look forwards to keeping in contact with them as time goes on. This was a wonderful and incredibly educational time for me, learning more in the last 9 months that I have in years! I feel confident going forward that I can tackle any challenge because of the mentoring I was given, and hopefully my journey here isn’t over quiet yet.
I have only been at this position for only a month, but I have already learned so much. When I was first starting out I was not sure of what to expect. From learning about the types of point of sale promotions and how they are used and distributed to strategizing our renegotiation efforts with our rental partners. All of which seems large and confusing, but with the help of my awesome mentor Kelly I was able to understand the work that the department did and begin contributing to it.
Working at SiriusXM has been such a positive experience through the first few weeks. I like working with Louie and the other producers on the NFL channel and I’m learning a lot about the nuances of radio. I’m excited to see where this internship will go and what I’ll learn in the upcoming months.
